Asclepian temples (5th century, BCE) ritual of “incubation” at
“sick individuals slept in a special sanctuary where they would either experience the god healing them with a dream or receive a dream in which the good would prescribe a regime of remebdy . . . they would work with the priest who interpreted the dreams and oversaw the administration of the prescribed remedy at the therapeutic sites in or near the temple” ( Upson-Saia, loc 804-806).
