“Surprise” bills

“About half of these bills are for lab work, facility charges, or imaging tests. The other half of surprise bills are generated by doctors working behind the scenes, such as pathologists and radiologists, who may be outside or your insurance network f. . . The same could be true for your emergency room physician, or the lab that processes your blood tests, or the anesthesiologists who puts you to sleep” (Makary, 23).
