Solution of orthodox Jews opposed to prenatal screening and abortion: screening of adolescents, who then knew whether or not they could marry someone else. For them, it was a “subtle adjustment(s) to the rituals associated with adolescence” that “could indeed support and strengthen the institution of arranged marriage among Orthodox Jews” (Wailoo & Pemberton, 40). It was “a kind of religiously sanctioned genetic matchmaking service” that would eliminate Tay-Sachs from the Orthodox community and in accordance with strict Jewish law (43).
