Following numerous letters from provincial doctors reporting widespread occurrence of convulsions in French countryside and asking for treatment advice, the editors of Histoire de la Société Royale de Médecine, official publication of the Royal Society of Medicine of Paris, announce a competition for the best essay on the nature, causes, and cures of convulsions (L. Wilson, loc 877-878).
