Publication of successful case of ovariotomy by Prof. of Surgery Nathan Smith of Yale, the second ovariotomist in U.S., in Edinburgh Med. & Surg. J., which likely came to attention of John Lizars, who then presumably took McDowell’s report of 1817 seriously, and reprinted it in his own paper of 1824 (Schachner, 188-89).
