Charles Goodyear perfects process of vulcanization, patented in 1844. It ushered in the era of false teeth for the masses beginning in the 1850s, as dentists used Vulcanite to make denture bases.  Patent on Vulcanite dentures expired in 1881 (Wynbrandt, 166-170).
