Oliver Wendell Holmes reads his paper on “The Contagiousness of Puerperal Fever” to the Boston Society for Medical Improvement, attacking the authorities of his day, esp. Charles Meigs of Jefferson Medical College (Nuland, 51056). Establishment of “Collegiate System” at St. Bartholomew’s with Paget as first “Warden” (Paget, 122-130).
