Publication of S. W. Mitchell’s Gunshot Wounds and Other Injuries of Nerves, growing out of Mitchell’s and Keen’s work at U.S. Army Hospital for Diseases of the Nervous System in N. Phila during Civil War. It provided first detailed study of traumatic neuroses and introduced concept of causalgia (burning sensation caused by inflamed nerves) (Rutkow, 254).
