1898
Bleuler (like Forel, an abstainer) succeeds A. Forel as Professor and Director of the Burghölzli asylum in Zurich (Forel, 241). Forel retires to Morges, where he continues to hypnotize (249, 252) and campaign for abstinence (helping found chapters of Good Templar Orders, speaking at anti-alcohol congresses, etc.). Britain’s new Vaccination Act relaxes terms of compulsion by introducing possibility of conscientious objection of parents re their children (Porter & Porter).
