Chevalier Jackson performs his first bronchoscopy and constructs the first practical bronchoscope, using cadavers and then dogs as experimental subjects (Jackson, 115-120; Stevenson, 145;140-49). Edwin Broyles of Hopkins develops the bronchoscope with a series of telescopes inserted into its lumen (Crowe, 175).
