Landsteiner in Vienna discovers cause of polio during autopsy of child victim: Virus in spinal cord. In 1911, Swedish researcher Carl Kling, determined how it spread: autopsies of fluids from throats, windpipes, and intestines of deceased infected children also paralyzed monkeys, therefore virus present in saliva or intestines of infected persons.
