Graham Clarke, founder of Ohio Chemical Company, working in collaboration with nurse Alice Magaw, invents the Ohio Monovalve, one of the most successful early anesthesia machines for administering a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen (Stepansky III, 45-46).
