Walter Dandy’s paper on ventriculography, “Following the Injection of Air into the Cerebral Ventricles” “was the greatest single contribution ever made to brain surgery” (Crowe, 88-89). Via ventricular puncture he removed cerebrospinal fluid and injected air into the ventricles, so that the ventricles could be seen in clear outline on x-ray film. This resulted in an objective and accurate method to localize brain tumors at an early stage of their development (88-92).
