1921
Founding of American Assn. of Plastic Surgeons, with 20 men as founding members: “What linked these men together, despite their diverse training, was their common interest and their experience in reconstructive surgery during World War I” (Haiken, 18); followed by American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in 1931 and American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1937 (which was given the status of a major specialty in 1941) (47-50; 88-90).
