George Minot diagnosed as diabetic by Elliott Joslin; Minot began insulin treatment on January 12, 1923: “The discovery of insulin was directly responsible for George’s being able to carry on and to make his own discovery of the treatment for pernicious anemia (Rackemann, 129). In 1945, Laurence Ellis pointed out “how much the world owes to Dr. Joslin for preserving the health of [Minot]” (259).
