Psychiatrist John Romano leaves Cincinnati for University of Rochester and brings George Engel with him to play major role in Rochester’s psychosomatic teaching (T. Brown II, 10). Frank Berger publishes article on tranquilizing properties of mephenesin – predecessor of meprobamate – which he tested as a penicillin preservative in 1945 (Tone, 35-37).
