Franz Groedel creates American College of Cardiology as counterpoise to American Heart Association; ACC focused on continuing medical education for practicing cardiologists and appealed to cardiologists excluded from the AHA’s elitist Scientific Council. It was bitterly opposed by AHA leaders, who thought it would cut into their local fund-raising (Fye 2, 118ff.)
