On December 23, Joseph Murray and his team at the Brigham perform first kidney transplant between identical twin humans, Richard and Ronald Herrick. The transplant was a success, with the recipient, Richard, living eight more years when his transplanted kidney became infected; his brother, the donor, lived to age 79. By 1966, 23 kidney transplants between identical twins had been performed (Chaddock, 218-221).
