First use of Bernard Lown and Baruch Berkowitz direct current defibrillator, with treatment termed cardioversion. In 1960, Kouwenhoun and two colleagues rediscover that compression of chest rhythmically with the hands as effective cardiac resuscitation procedure; proposal for coronary care units by Desmond Julian of Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (Morris, loc 3093f.).
