AMA amends its constitution to forbid racial discrimination in membership at any level, and to authorize House of Delegates to bar seating of delegates from any state where such practices existed (Wynes, 88). Arthur and Elaine Shapiro publish first article on successful treatment of Tourette’s Syndrome with haloperidol and lambast “the therapeutic and intellectual paucity of psychoanalytic psychiatry.” It was published in British Journal of Psychiatry, since it was rejected by every major American psychiatric journal (Kushner, 172).
