First crude CT scanner demonstrated in London (Kevles, 146). American chemist Paul Lauterbur discovers one-dimensional imaging (viz, primitive MRI): “zeugmatography,” the joining together of a gradient magnetic field and the radiofrequencing that corresponds to it in a single image” (Kevles, 181). Lauterbur’s discovery published in Nature in 1973.
