First DTC advertising of a prescription drug, when Boots pharmaceutical used print and TV ads to promote Rufen, a prescription pain reliever. Then in 1982, Merck and Dohme advertised its pneumonia vaccine, Pneumovax, to people over age of 65. From 1983-1985, FDA called for voluntary moratorium on DTCA (Donahue, 675).
