Publication in Science of Gallo, Essex, and Montagnier’s papers on viral (retrovirus) cause of AIDS; Gallo wrote the abstract to Montagnier’s paper to make it sound like the Pasteur researchers had discovered a “C-type retrovirus” similar to Gallo’s own THLV: “Gallo had effectively enlisted the Pasteur researchers behind his own HTLV [human T-cell leukemia virus] (Epstein, 70).
