Bratman proposes term "orthorexia nervosa" to describe people whose obsession with eating only healthy foods leads to extreme diets that result in malnutrition and compromise daily functioning. But orthorexia has received scant attention in the North American literature and lacks formal diagnostic status (Bratman, 1997; Dunn & Bratman).
