In June, in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, the U.S. Supreme Court, by 6-3 vote, overturned the Roe v. Wade decision of January 1973, which held that women's right to abortion was rooted in the language of the Constitution and Bill of Rights: the unduly restrictive state regulation of abortion was thereby unconstitutional. The Dobbs decision, by a 6-3 vote, held that abortion was not a constitutional right, thereby eliminating women’s freedom to end unwanted pregnancies, and throwing the regulation of abortion back to the states.
